“Steve,” you say, “we’re gonna have to fight. Think you can?”
He grins at you a little, says, “I’m not sure I have a choice,” and pushes himself off your shoulder and upright. You can see him gritting his teeth and realize you don’t actually even know how he’s injured, what he’s going to have to do to compensate when he’s fighting, but it’s too late for a debrief now (though Coulson would be proud).
You nod, sling your bow off your shoulder and charge ahead, dragging him in your wake.
Evidently, Coulson is proud, because as you’re fighting, there’s the sound of a helicopter overhead and then there are S.H.I.E.L.D. special tactics fighters ziplining down around the tower and they have Really Fucking Big Guns, too, so even though you take a few hits and Steve makes a few rather worrisome noises, you end up still alive while the Hydra agents end up dead, and that’s something, anyway.
