The compound between here and the cell block is littered with Hydra agents and you reckon Tony in the armour has a much better chance of getting through them in one piece than you do, so you yell to him to go, that you can handle the rest of these guys, that you’ll meet up with him at the extraction point.

You’re not, strictly speaking, counting on making it to the extraction point, but you might, and either way you’re pretty sure you can set things up so Natasha, at least, meets him there - and that’s all the time you have to spare for thinking about it, so you draw your bow and keep on taking down anything in a Hydra uniform.

What you weren’t counting on (hoping, sure, but not relying on) is that Natasha is pretty much a badass, so by the time you’ve eliminated all the Hydra agents you can see, she’s managed to get rid of quite a few you couldn’t and is vaulting up onto the truck cab beside you, breathless and a little dishevelled, but not otherwise any worse for wear.

The other thing you were not counting on, though, is the massive explosion and shockwave that knock both of you to your knees, and then Agent Coulson’s quiet voice over the comms, saying, “Iron Man is down.”
