Tony finally wins the argument by pointing out that Steve was injured far worse and Natasha is more likely to have been able to hold her own. And Steve is close, and you can make it back down there now that you’ve had time to regroup, now that Tony’s repulsors are fully charged again.

            You do make it back down to where Steve is, and you cover Tony’s back while he blasts through the door, and then -

- well, then there is a lot of profanity and a lot of repulsor fire and so many arrows so fast that you can’t even keep an accurate count, except that it doesn’t matter, because all too soon, the count is zero and the room is filled with a haze of smoke from Tony’s wrist-mounted missiles and there are so many guards now between you and Steve that you almost have to laugh helplessly at the idea that you thought you could rescue him, and then there’s a guard at your shoulder and a knife at your neck and the last thing you think is a mental apology to Natasha for not being able to save -
